Yup - its nearly my 40th birthday. Its hard to believe - well hard for me to believe, 'cos in my head, I'm still about 23
.
I'm still deciding whether its a milestone that should be celebrated, or whether to let it slip quietly by without much fuss. Currently no fuss, but possibly a big feed seems to be winning out.
You often hear of people getting all flustered about being forty, but I can't say that its having that effect on me - although it has made me think about a couple of random things. And one of those things is music, as it happens.
Now, I'm not one of those people that thinks all good music stopped being made when I was about 26 and anything later than that is worthless - although I do know someone who thinks that anything that wasn't created in the 70's and 80's is white noise. (As an aside, that same person has an iPod stacked full with ELO - I didn't remember them being quite as prolific as all that but there you go
).
In a recent visit to HMV on Sunday, I did get a bit misty eyed and went a bit retro, buying a couple of extremely indulgent CDs from the 2 for a tenner offer - and have been playing them loudly in the car since. In fact very loudly
.
What did I get? Let's Dance - David Bowie, and Greatest Hits Vol 1 - Depeche Mode. And I'm glad to say it makes a pleasant change from the usual round of pappy ballads from X Factor semi finalists that seem to dominate the radio playlists.
God I'm starting to sound old!
