This, my latest update, comes fresh from my hotel in Australia, where I'm getting ready for a work based event - namely our annual user meeting here in Freemantle. And forget any notions that you might have about a glamorous jet setting lifestyle too. I've missed my weekend, its taken 20+ hours to get here, I'm working on a Sunday, and I'm flying back home on Wednesday. Plus my company has an economy class travel policy, so I've got the return leg to look forward too as well ![]()
Anyhow, that's enough whingeing, and I might as well give you a quick bit of tourist style info, gathered from the taxi driver on the way from the airport as well as from a short wander round 'Freo'.
The city is close to Perth, and has loads of colonial type buildings - apparently built using convict labour. The harbour provided the original industrial base for the settlement, and was home to the whaling station (fortunately no longer present).
The hotel I'm staying in is close to the sea and also within easy walking of pretty much everything you could need (especially restaurants) - here's what it looks like:

Since its warm here (well warm compared to Manchester anyway) I was thinking that a dip in the sea might be in order...until I noticed an item on the local news saying that there had been two shark sightings in two days of Perth beaches. You're safe as long as you don't go swimming near any groups of seals apparently...guess I'll use the pool instead ![]()
