We went to the Opera House in Manchester last night - and when I say we, I mean myself, Jane, Stephen and Sandra (Jane's brother and his partner) - to see Mrs Brown's Last Wedding. This is a comedy show based around an Irish widow and her family, and was absolutely hilarious.
The best parts were when Brendan O'Carroll (writer and lead role) went completely off piste causing the rest of the cast to corpse - most of them visibly shaking with laughter - at the unexpected and very funny ad libs. At some points I was wondering how they'd ever get to the end of the scene. The show does make liberal use of adult language, so it might not be to everyone's taste, but I loved it. As Mrs Brown said in a particularly poignant family moment, "I remember your father's last words...'Oh F***, Its a bus!'"
Another added bonus for the evening, we were able to join the rest of the audience in some brazen celeb spotting, as we were joined by John O'Shea and Rio Ferdinand (from Man Utd in case you didn't know) in the audience. Jane tells me that they were rolling about laughing, so we presume they had a good time too.
Oh and one last surreal moment as we left the theatre...I overheard a bunch of coffin dodgers on the corner of the street discussing the show and caught the following marvelous comment,"...And I don't think there was any need for that kind of language..." ![]()
